Ingram Architects uses a unique web based client log-in site to share ideas, files and technical drawings. This allows us to hit the ground running while working with builders in the field and has been a great tool to keep our teams connected.
Here's a little about how it works:
At the beginning of each project, IA creates a unique client site (from template) that can be adapted to aspects of each new job. Clients, builders, consultants and / or other team members are given access to the site with their own login and password.
After login, users are directed to an overview page that summarizes all activity on the site such as new uploaded files or new messages. From this page, site users can perview a series of options which include 'Messages, To-Do, Milestones, and Files.' These catagories are the essential tools for managing a project. For example, all messages from the project team can be tracked and managed in the message area. In most cases this is a seamless process; when new files are uploaded they are often accompanied by a message. After review, clients simply reply to the original email and their comments are automatically saved by the website.
The To-Do list can track tasks with responsible parties to keep the flow of work moving along nicely and the Milestone section of the site can track important dates and deadlines that must be met.
Lastly, all files are uploaded for immediate access anytime, by clients, builders or other members of the team. For fast track design build projects, files can be coded such as 'CSK' so that a builder has instant access to all construction sketches issued. These files can even be accessed on site. Fantastic!
The use of this site has become an integral part of our design process and streamlines many aspects of our communication ultimately making us faster, more efficient and more accessible.
To test drive the site, I've uploaded a simple 'project' for review. Last year I had the pleasure of reviewing student work at Brookline HighSchool. Rex Ingram is a Licensed Architect in Massachusetts. Rex holds a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. He started Ingram Architects (previously Ingram Design Studio) after moving to Nantucket Island in 1999. "The move to Nantucket allowed me to work with top notch craftsmen and builders. It was in this tradition of craftsmanship that I learned and developed my skill for detailing buildings and interiors.
